This is a treatment for a form of age-related macular degeneration called "wet AMD." This treatment seals leaky blood vessels in your retina. It can help prevent further vision loss.
To begin, a special light-sensitive medicine is injected into your arm. The medicine travels through your bloodstream to the blood vessels in your eye. It pools in the damaged vessels in your retina.
Next, your eye is covered with a special contact lens. A low-power laser is shined into your eye. It strikes your retina and causes the medicine to react. The medicine seals your leaky blood vessels. Over time, your body will absorb most of the leaked blood.
After the procedure, your vision may be blurry for several hours. The medication will stay in your body for several days, and you must stay out of the sun during this time to avoid a sunburn. You may need to repeat the treatment regularly for the full benefit.
