This procedure relieves the pain and swelling of elbow bursitis. That's an inflammation of the olecranon bursa, a fluid-filled sac that protects the tip of the elbow.
To begin, we clean the skin of your elbow. Then we numb the area with freezing spray or with an injection of anesthetic.
Now we need to drain the extra fluid. We do this with a syringe. We carefully guide the syringe's needle into your bursa. Then, we pull back the plunger to draw out the fluid. This brings the bursa back down to its normal size. We may also inject medicine into the bursa to help relieve pain.
When it's done, we bandage your elbow. We may recommend wearing an elbow brace as it heals. Follow your care tips for a safe recovery.
