Laser Tattoo Removal

Overview

This treatment uses laser light to break up a tattoo's ink. It gets rid of a tattoo without the need for surgery.

Preparation

To begin, we cleanse your skin. We also numb your skin with local anesthetic. We may use a numbing cream. Or, we may give you one or more injections.

Treating the tattoo

Now it's time to treat the tattoo. We aim the laser at your skin and send pulses of light into your tattoo. The laser heats up the ink within your skin. It breaks the large ink particles into tiny pieces. These pieces are so small that your body's immune system can clear them away naturally. Keep in mind that every tattoo is different. Things like the type of ink, the color and the size of your tattoo determine how we need to treat it. We may need to use different types of lasers to break apart all of the ink.

Conclusion

When it's done, you may have some redness and swelling. Your skin could blister or bleed. Follow your care plan for a safe recovery. As your skin heals, your tattoo may disappear completely. But even if it doesn't fully disappear, it may fade dramatically, becoming so light it's hardly noticeable. You may need to come back for more sessions to get the best results.
