Laser Cyclophotocoagulation (CPC) for Glaucoma

Overview

This laser treatment reduces the amount of fluid your eye produces. It lowers the pressure inside your eye. CPC may be an option when other glaucoma treatments haven't worked.

Preparation

To begin, your eye is numbed. Your eyelids are held open so you don't blink during the procedure.

Laser treatment

The doctor aims a laser through the white part of your eye at the ciliary body. This is the part of the eye that produces fluid. The laser treatment limits the ciliary body’s ability to make excess fluid. This lowers the pressure in your eye.

After the procedure

After the procedure, your eye may be irritated. Medicated eyedrops will prevent infection and reduce swelling. You'll need followup appointments to check the pressure in your eye. You may need more than one treatment. Follow your doctor's care plan.
