Focal One® is a noninvasive robotic surgery option used to treat localized prostate cancer.
This robotic surgery is an alternative option for men with early-stage prostate cancer. Instead of being placed under observation with a “watchful waiting” approach, some patients prefer to be more aggressive with treatment.
A high-intensity focused ultrasound combines with MRI and biopsy data presented in 3D. This allows urologists to carefully target the tumor with high frequency ultrasound heat, ablating cancer cells without harming healthy prostate tissue and preserving quality of life. No incisions are made.
HIFU technology directs high-intensity sound waves through an ultrasound probe to a precisely controlled focal point within the prostate. This rapid concentration of energy increases temperature at the targeted area to cause cell death due to a lack of blood supply.
Stay current with your annual PSA. Follow-up care may include repeat prostate biopsy and MRI of the prostate. If other cells are ever located, another treatment can be performed.
