Distal Clavicle Excision (Arthroscopic Method)

Overview

This surgery treats a painful pinching in the shoulder's acromioclavicular joint. It fixes the space between your clavicle (that's your collarbone) and your shoulder blade bone. This surgery removes the end of the clavicle.

Preparation

To begin, we give you medicine to make you feel relaxed and numb. You may be put to sleep. We make some small openings in your skin. One is for a video camera device called an "arthroscope." It lets us see inside your shoulder. The others are for tiny instruments.

Excision

Now we carefully remove the end of the clavicle. This makes more space for soft tissues. It stops the pinching. It relieves your pain.

End of procedure

When it's done, your skin is closed and bandaged. After a period of healing, physical therapy will help strengthen your shoulder. Follow your care plan for a safe recovery.
